Have you ever imagined how many secrets/Keyboard Shortcuts Keys are hidden inside your computer?

The first generation computers were completed in 1946 which were based on Vacuum tubes. After that, the second generation computers were based on transistors. After that, the third generation computers were based on Integrated Circuits. After that, the fourth generation of computers was based on Microprocessors and so on.

20 years ago, the most advanced computer had a hard drive capacity of 320 Megabytes. And it was considered as a great breakthrough in personal computers technology at that time. Since then a lot of things have changed. The uses of Computer Mouse has been changed to Touch Screens. Only the keyboard is the things that have not been changed.

Here’s a list of some shortcuts that will help you to work easily and faster.

Windows Shortcuts keys:

  1. Windows Key: Start menu.
  2. Windows Key + A: Opens and Closes The Action Center
  3. Windows Key + B: Set Focus on the 1st icon of Notification Area. To move over other icons just use the arrow keys (Right arrow/Left arrow)
  4. Windows Key + C: Opens Cortana in listening mode.
    • This shortcut is turned off by default. To turn it on, select Start  > Settings  > Cortana, and turn on the toggle under “Let Cortana listen for my commands when I press the Windows logo key + C“.
  5. Windows  Key + Shift + C: Opens the Charms Menu.
  6. Windows Key + D: Return to and Closes Desktop.
  7. Windows Key + Ctrl + D: Create a Virtual Desktop.
  8. Windows Key + Ctrl +  Right arrow/Left arrow: Switch between Virtual Desktop.
  9. Windows Key + Ctrl + F4: Closes the current Virtual Desktop.
  10. Windows Key + Alt + D: Opens and Close Date and Time on Desktop.
  11. Windows Key + E: Opens and Closes My Computer/This PC. By default, it opens Quick Access.
  12. Windows Key + F: Open Feedback Hub and take a screenshot.
  13. Windows Key + Ctrl + F: Open Find Computers.
  14. Windows Key + G: Opens Game bar. While the Game bar is on, you can also take a screenshot (Windows Key + Alt + PrtScrn); Record last 30 sec (Windows Key + Alt + G); Start recording (Windows Key + Alt + G); Turn on the Mic while recording (Windows Key + Alt + M); Start Broadcasting (Windows Key + B)
  15. Windows Key + H: Start Dictation (Only when the language is US English).
  16. Windows Key + I: Opens Setting.
  17. Windows Key + K: Opens the Connect quick action.
  18. Windows Key + L: Lock your PC or switch accounts.
  19. Windows Key + M: Minimize all windows.
  20. Windows Key + Shift + M: Restores the minimized Windows.
  21. Windows Key + Ctrl + M: Open the Magnifier app in Settings.
  22. Windows Key + O: Lock device orientation and close gyroscope function on tablets.
  23. Windows Key + P: Choose a presentation display mode.
  24. Windows Key + Q: Opens Search in text mode.
  25. Windows Key + Ctrl + Q: Opens Quick Assist.
  26. Windows Key + R: Open the Run dialog box.
  27. Windows Key + S: Opens Search in text mode.
  28. Windows Key + Shift + S: Take a screenshot of part of your screen.
  29. Windows Key + T:  Set Focus and Cycle through apps on the taskbar.
  30. Windows Key + U: Open Ease of Access Center.
  31. Windows Key + V: Open the clipboard.
    • To activate this shortcut, select Start Settings System Clipboard, and turn on the toggle under Clipboard history.
  32. Windows Key + Shift + V: Cycle through notifications.
  33. Windows Key + W: Open Windows Ink Workspace
  34. Windows Key + X: Open the Quick Link menu.
  35. Windows Key + Y: Switch input between Windows Mixed Reality and your desktop.
  36. Windows Key + Z: Show the commands available in an app in full-screen mode.
  37. Windows Key + period (.) or semicolon (;): Open emoji panel.
  38. Windows Key + comma (,): Temporarily peek at the desktop.
  39. Windows Key + Pause: Opens the System Properties dialog box.
  40. Windows Key + Number: Opens the app pinned to the taskbar in the position indicated by the number. If the app is already running, switch to that app.
  41. Windows Key + Shift + Number: Open a new instance of the app pinned to the taskbar in the position indicated by the number.
  42. Windows Key + Ctrl + Number: Switch to the last active window of the app pinned to the taskbar in the position indicated by the number.
  43. Windows Key + Alt + Number: Open Jump List for the app pinned to the taskbar in the position indicated by the number.
  44. Windows Key + Ctrl + Shift + Number Open a new instance of the app located at the given position on the taskbar as an administrator.
  45. Windows Key + Tab: Open Task view.
  46. Windows Key + Up Arrow: Maximize the window.
  47. Windows Key + Down Arrow: Remove the current app from the screen or minimize the desktop window.
  48. Windows Key + Left arrow: Maximize the app or desktop window to the left side of the screen.
  49. Windows Key + Right arrow: Maximize the app or desktop window to the right side of the screen.
  50. Windows key+ Shift + Left arrow/Right arrow: Move an app or window in the desktop from one monitor to another.
  51. Windows Key + Home: Minimize all except the active desktop window (restores all windows on the second stroke).
  52. Windows Key + Spacebar: Switch input language and keyboard layout.
  53. Windows Key + Ctrl + Spacebar Change to a previously selected input.
  54. Windows Key + Ctrl + Enter: Turn on Narrator.
  55. Windows Key + Plus(+): Open Magnifier.
  56. Windows Key + Esc: Close Magnifier.
  57. Windows Key + Forward slash(/): Begin IME reconversion.
  58. Windows key + F1: Open “how to get help in Windows 10”  in Bing search in the default browser.
  59. Windows key + Tab: Opens Task View.
  60. Windows Key + PrtScrn: Takes a Screenshot.

Basic Keyboard Shortcuts Keys:

  • Ctrl + A: Select all items in a window.
  • Ctrl + C / Ctrl + Insert: Copy selected or highlighted item.
  • Ctrl + V / Shift + Insert: Paste selected or highlighted item.
  • Ctrl + X: Cut selected or highlighted item.
  • Ctrl + Z: Undo the previous action.
  • Ctrl + Y: Redo action.
  • Ctrl + N: Open a new File Explorer window with the same folder path as the current window.
  • Ctrl + Esc: Start menu.
  • Alt + F4: Close the current app or window.
  • Alt + Tab: Switch between open apps or windows.
  • Shift + Delete: Delete the selected item permanently (skip the Recycle Bin).
  • Ctrl + Shift + Esc: Opens Task manager.
  • Alt + Enter: Opens the Properties Dialog Box of the selected folder, app, files, etc.
