Aarogya Setu app is gaining popularity and has crossed 10 crore registered users mark just 41 days after its launch. Currently, this app has 11.50 crore registered users and has helped many by alerting them. After many requests from users and security researchers, NITI Aayog has open-sourced the code of the Aarogya Setu app. Currently, they have released source code for Android version. Later, they will open-source the code for iOS and KaiOS version, also the server code will be released soon in coming weeks. The source code is available on GitHub and National Informatics Centre (NIC).
Security experts were asking to open source the code as hackers claimed to hack the app and said it has many security flaws. Users were concerned over their privacy so they requested the Government to open source it. Now after being open-sourced it will improve security and user trust.
Bug Bounty Programme
With the open-sourcing of the code comes a bug bounty programme where security researchers can search for bugs and vulnerabilities within the app to avail an Rs. 1 lakh worth of bounty. Additionally, extra Rs. 1 lakh will be given if the code is improved.
